The fun part of mediating is you can take it to any level or direction you desire, but the core of meditating is to slow down and quite the mind. Give yourself time to just breathe and relax. You can find tons of meditations on YouTube these days. Some our guided and some just music. You go with what feels right. You can also meditate without any music or assistance.
The first time I meditated they did not call it meditating. I was just 17 and had stomach issues, they ran a number of tests and one doctor told me you just need to relax. He gave me a tape and told me to relax a couple times a week. Just play the tape and relax. He called it a relaxation tape. In truth it was a guided meditation and put me to sleep every time, I don’t believe I ever heard the entire tape. The process worked for me and my stomach pains went away.
A few years later I was taking my final classes in college and one of those classes was on relaxing management. We took a stress test the first class and the teacher asked me to stay after class. Turns out I scored higher than anyone she ever tested, and that was not a good thing. The very first thing she asked was how I felt and what was going on in my life. I said I feel ok, just a few things going on. I was taking 21 credit hours so I could complete college, working full time, married with kids, moved, had a death in the family. She stopped me there, ok you need to relax and you need to relax every day in fact I will tell you a trick where you can relax anytime you need to.
She showed me how to quite my mind very quickly and go to a happy place. It was so simple I closed my eyes imagined my favorite place to be, for me it was the beach. Once I was there in my mind I just relaxed and meditated on nothing. I could do this within 30 seconds and feel relaxed. I did it anytime I felt stressed and before every test. As everyone was reading notes before the test, I sat closed my eyes and relaxed. In the end I was relaxed and got straight A’s.
Today I meditation every morning for about 15 minutes to a guided meditation or music. Every morning I feel refreshed and ready to take on the day. Find the time to meditate and relax your mind just for a few moments of each day and you will feel so much better.
Much joy and love to you and yours.
