When the storm finally came I could hear the wind and rain coming down in buckets. I looked out the front and couldn't believe my eyes the ditch was completely full of water and some was over flowing into the street. I decided to look out back. Wow the back yard was a swimming pool, the water completely flooded our yard and the neighbors. I told my father, then he got worried, quick let’s get to the basement and unplug everything and I will turn off the power to the basement. I wasn't sure what was going on, but I ran down there with him and unplugged everything. Just as we completed our task he shined a light on the door. Water was starting to come into the basement. He said get upstairs I have a couple more things I need to do, we are going to get flooded.
When I went up and told Mom, we are getting flooded the basement will be under water. She reached out and hugged me, and said it will be ok. I got another flashlight and went back down the steps, I yelled out, Dad you better get up here. As he started coming up the steps I heard a loud crack. I shined my light over to the door and saw it was pushed wide open and an ocean of water was rushing into the basement. Within moments there was over 3 feet of water in the basement. I was worried it could fill the basement, then what do we do, where do we go? That is when it all hit me, the basement is flooded. All of my toys, sporting stuff, and books were in the basement.
I just sat there in shock for a few hours. At times I cold here my parents trying to get me out of it, but I could not speak. I just cried inside for all my things. Then I spoke, oh my hamper I just made this week, it’s destroyed. My father went down in the basement and brought it up to me. By that time all the water was gone and the storm was over. The cleanup was messy and took some time to clear all the stuff from the basement. The cleanup went well and after about a month everything was back to normal.
That is except for the storm in my mind. We all get storms in our minds from time to time. It could be a from a physical storm or illnesses or job issues, or hundreds of other things. The physical storms can be repaired with replacing items, but the ones in our mind needs joy and love to heal you. My parents helped me with hugs and talking to me, and over time I felt good again. They showed me I mattered and they loved me.
Two after thoughts. First I suggest you give money to help the people after the storm. The second thing is reach out to anyone hurting. Just let them know you care and you will be there for them. A hug and kind word goes a long way to anyone hurting from the storms within their mind.
Much Joy and love to you and yours
