There she was thanking her children for caring for her and asking when can she return home. She repeatedly said she felt fine and wanted to go home. After taking to the nurse I felt better, she was stable, but they were giving her move blood and other meds. She needed rest and the next day they would run a tube down her throat and see inside her stomach.
The next morning I rushed the kids off to school, then went to the hospital. My mothers was in good spirits and keep asking for coffee. I had to tell her she was not allowed drinks until they look inside her. We chatted about a number of things and as the day went by more of the family showed up or called to check on mom. She just told them she was fine and wanted to go home. Finally someone came into the room to take my mother for the exam.
When she came back she just said fine they did the exam, I want a drink. Every time she said she wanted a drink she was quick to add coffee, ice tea, or milk to that request. Finally the nurse came in and said ok you can now have apple juice. She was so happy and took a little slip of her juice. I said, what if it was me I would have finish that one and asked for more. We all laughed, and then continued talking about other topics.
One of the doctors finally came back to us and gave us the report. Your mother has a hole in her stomach and another a little past the stomach. It could have been from meds she was taking for pain. He said, she will need this new medicine taken with her IV and later they will give her pills to take to help reduce the reactions within her stomach. I asked how do you heal the holes? The doctor said the stomach will heal itself, it just needs to make sure its clear of any bad stuff inside.
It sure is amazing how well the body heals itself. Hmmm and people want to question if there is a God. Who else could create a being that heals itself?
Well, I watched everyone leave and my mother seemed concerned about being alone. I stayed longer and watched TV with her and talked about the shows and old times. She keep talking about when can I go home. Finally I said you will be home soon enough, for now get some rest and relax. As I gave her a kiss good night, she closed her eyes.
