It is amazing how when we are young we make lists of things we want, then later as parents we want to give our kids their wishes.
But somehow in all the rush to giving we got caught up with worrying about the number of gifts or making sure everyone gets something. Is that the true meaning of giving gifts?
Oh believe me I got caught in that too. The funniest thing I ever did when I was a young parent without much money is I wrapped some of the kid’s old toys as presents so they had tons of presents.
Now you do know why this all started, right. The ultimate gift was the meaning of Christmas. Yes, God sent his Son, Jesus to us to free us. I will not get too deep into the true gift, let’s just talk about gifts.
The other day I watched my son’s pack up blankets, hats, gloves, food and water and deliver it to a group of homeless people. They gave them something they needed and were they happy, yes all the people receiving and my son’s. They gave something meaningful and needed.
Makes me think about my gifts I am giving. I had to stop and think, am I giving to just have something for them under the tree or do they really need the gifts I have for them. Then my grandson asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I told him just a hug every time I see you. He smiled and said your wish is my gift to you and he gave me a big hug. Now to me that is one amazing gift.
Remember your gift giving does not need to cost much, just a simple hug and smile will do the trick.
Much joy and love to you and yours
